Antivirus software vendor McAfee Inc. has identified certain domain names as the ones with the highest percentage of risky sites. Domains that end with .cn (China), .hk (Hong Kong) and .info (information) are said to be the most risky to surf.
Percentage of sites seen to be risky or dangerous:
.hk (Hong Kong) 19.2%
.cn (China) 11.8%
.info (information) 11.7%
.ru (Romania) 6.8%
.ro (Russia) 6.7%
The world’s most popular (.com) domains are noted to have just about 5%
Spammers, malicious code writers and other internet scam artists find it easier to register domains when the domain registrars are less strict about regulations governing registrations.
The most common internet frauds involve pharmaceutical sites. So if you are desperate to buy medications online, it is better to avoid domains that end with the high risk domain names such as .hk, .cn, and .info
